Fort Collins and the Third Place

An extended article I wrote based on the sociology concept of the "third place". Beginning with a brief overview on the term, its history, and why it is an important concept to be aware of in modern America, I then transition into a listicle of ten locations in Fort Collins that embody this concept.

The Breakdown

To complete this project, I did some research online about sociologist Ray Oldenburg's concept of the third place. I also visited every location that I wrote about in the listicle section, and took all photographs used in the article.

I created all graphics - the group at the table on page 1 and 2, the coffee mug on page 6, and the dice on page 7 - on Procreate. The intention was to create colorful artwork that is flat but dynamic, to evoke the style of art that is popular in 50s and 60s American diners, where many third place descriptions are based off of.

The page layouts were fully put together on Canva, no templates were used.
